I was newly married and toying with the idea of what made a relationship successful. I wanted to illustrate having each other’s back. To face forward and live one’s own dreams and yet to always feel the strength of your true love supporting and protecting you from behind. My mom was having a show at Java Nook, a funky art loving coffeeshop nestled between buildings in The Junction. She invited me to bring some of my sculptures. A young couple was entranced by this sculpture. The wife had MS and she felt that Support expressed how her husband physically and emotionally held her up. In the end they decided not to purchase the sculpture, concerned over the unconventional material usage. Almost 20 years later, my marriage has ended and the young woman has succumbed to MS, but Support still stands.
